SPIKE LEE PRESENTS: CRONIES ENCORE SCREENING @ U CITY HIGH SCHOOL JUNE 18th
CRONIES is a film that's been gaining popularity on the Film Festival Circuit since 2015. Its slated to hit the internet this summer but first we wanted to give the community another chance to see it on the big screen. The first two times it screened in STL it sold out so this time we elected to show it at a larger venue and are using it as a fundraiser for the UCity High School PTO. This event is presented by University City School District and Hot 104.1.
The film was written, produced, and directed by University City native, Michael J. Larnell.
Michael left STL a few years ago to pursue his Masters in Film at NYC. When afforded the opportunity to film a feature, He chose to bring it back to St. Louis to tell his story.
This film was shot entirely in STL and features a full cast of St. Louisans. Spike Lee saw ten minutes of Cronies and thought it was amazing so he offered to not only assist in financing Cronies. (which he had already done after just reading the script); Spike Lee then chose to lend his expertise as a mentor and become Executive Producer on the film.
In attempts to create his own lane Larnell's team has elected to employ a grassroots campaign to showcase his new film and bring the vibrancy of cinema back into the community. It once was widely known that the best way to watch a movie is with others.
Track Record
CRONIES made its debut at last year's Sundance Film Festival (Utah) and has since made waves at Tribeca Film Festival (New York), NEXTFEST (Los Angeles), BFI London Film Festival (London), the Chicago International Film Festival, St. Louis International Film Festival and more.
Relevance
This film shows cross cultural engagement and in my opinion could possibly influence race relations as well as influence the youth to think twice and stand up for whats right; even in the wrongest of situations. The approach to these means are slick. The cinematography and writing is top notch. And it's brutally honest about how situations sometimes play out. In its own clever way it brings attention to social issues including addiction, self esteem, and chauvinism.
The Cross Promotion Idea
CRONIES is set to have its St. Louis Encore Screening on June 18, 7pm) at University City High- 7401 Balson Ave University City, MO 63130.
For much of the crowd, this will be a night they'll never forget because of their involvement or support for the film. For others it will be a reunion, and for others it will be something to do.
There will be music.
There will be giveaways.
There will be opportunity for vendor booths.
And at the end there will be a Q and A where the audience can ask the cast questions and comment on the film. At previous screenings these comments led to a community discussion. And I forsee that happening again.
SPONSORSHIP PACKAGES AVAILABLE
There are opportunities for vendor tables, mentions in program, and on screen commercials.
